How HomePassportAI helps

Move documents between phone and Mac
Saved documents live in this browser on this device. They are not cloud-synced yet.
localhost on your Mac and 192.168.… on your phone are different places — use a backup file to copy them.
1. On the device that has the documents (usually iPhone)
Open HomePassportAI with the same URL where you saved the documents.
Go to Settings.
Tap Share / export backup.
In the share sheet, choose AirDrop → your Mac.
Ignore random “Open in …” apps (shopping apps, browsers, etc.) — those are not for backups.
2. On your Mac
Accept the AirDrop (file usually lands in Downloads).
Open HomePassportAI on the Mac.
Go to Settings → Import backup file.
Select the .json backup file.
Open Reports — your documents should appear under Saved documents.
Tips
The backup includes documents and inventory items from that device.
If the list still looks empty, tap Look for saved documents on this device on the Reports page.
After you change documents on either device, export again so phone and Mac stay in sync.
AI API key (required for AI)
HomePassportAI uses your OpenAI or Claude key on this device. You pay the AI provider
directly for photo and video analysis — the site does not include shared AI credits.
Needed for AI: label/model/serial extraction, appliance photos, room video scans, document extraction.
Works without AI: saving photos, editing details, search, share, manual lookup links, insurance PDF (from saved items), document photos entered manually.

Paintings & artwork
Photograph the whole piece with corners visible. AI can detect dominant colors, guess
approximate size, read corner signatures, and build a combined signature image where the
label photo normally goes — artist in Brand, title in Model.

Tap the camera button on the home screen.
Take a photo of the appliance.
Optionally add a label photo for model and serial (or skip it).
Optionally add a receipt photo.
Review the details, pick a room, and save.
Scan a whole room
Record a short room video — the app finds multiple items and lets you choose which ones to keep.
Find items later
Use search on the home list (nickname, brand, model, serial).
Tap a room chip to filter by room (toggle in Settings).
Open any item for photos, edit details, manuals, and repair notes.
